A UC Davis graduate in enology, Anthony studied with the legendary Andre Tchelistcheff and later directed the first crush at Firestone in 1976. Firestone was the first modern commercial winery in the Santa Barbara area and while Anthony was their winemaker, won many prestigious awards for its wines. In 1981, Anthony left to establish his own label, Austin Cellars, in Los Olivos and made some first-rate Pinot Noirs there until 1992 when the winery was sold. Today Anthony has more than 30 vintages under his belt and is as passionate as ever about producing Clouds Rest wines.
Anthony’s style of winemaking is influenced by his great respect for the unique terroir of the Clouds Rest Pinot Noir estate vineyard, the Sonoma Coast and further North on the rugged California coastline. His complete trust in the terroir means he tries to interfere as little as possible in order to allow the fruit to fully express itself and its origins. Anthony always pays respect to the Old World winemaking traditions that date back thousands of years. Clouds Rest Pinot Noir is right at the top of Anthony’s finest in his 30+ years of winemaking.
